Tips for Teaching Manners
Have you noticed that lately people with manners skills and especially children that have good manners are few and far between? Teaching manners seems to be becoming a lost art and, in fact, one woman by the name of Kris Palmer took notice and decided to see if she could help the situation. She began carrying around a pocket full of stickers with stars on them and presented a star sticker and a healthy 'good job' whenever she witnessed someone doing something polite. - When teaching manners, parents must be consistant.
Teaching manners requires day in and day out consistancy!
- Teaching manners should be done while the child is NOT acting inappropriately. When done at the right time, the children will be more receptive to the training!
- When parents ignore inappropriate behavior, that is the same as encouraging that behavior!
- Look ahead for opportunities for teaching manners and then practice. If you know your child is going to be encountering certain social interactions practice with them for prepraration right before you go.
- When teaching manners, tell your child what they should do and not wht they should not be doing.
