Teaching Social Skills To Kids
Welcome Educators,
Teaching social skills and developing character is an area we feel imperative to the educational experience and performance of students. When a child is equipped with the knowledge and strategies to function in unfamiliar or uncomfortable social settings and character challenging experiences their confidence grows. This confidence then allows them to communicate and conduct themselves more effectively, especially in the school setting with teachers and other students.
Through this process their overall school experience and performance can be greatly enhanced while at the same time preparing them for the social graces and character needed as they grow into adulthood.
Spending significant time on teaching social skills and developing character can be difficult for you as an educator. I understand. I am an educator as well. Between getting students ready for standardized tests and covering the academic curriculum there is little time for explicitly teaching social skills and character development. However, we know these areas are crucial for a student’s development into strong and confident young women and men. To help bridge the gap between the time restraints of educators and the vital need of teaching social skills and character development to students we created Boost Kids. The program covers everything from social skills like greeting people and asking questions to character issues like respecting others and overcoming challenges.
Boost Kids was designed to be flexible and useful for the hectic schedule of any classroom. It can be utilized as a resource students can use independently on the computer or at their desks, in a quick five minute group lesson at the beginning of the day, or in a formal group session of forty-five minutes to an hour. The ingredients are the interactive CD-ROM with real life video scenarios, student activity book, boost flash cards, and, for the formal group session, the instructor book.
Teaching social skills and developing character is something we all value as educators. Join us in helping to make this area of development a reality for students today and in the future.
