Bullying And Teasing

Especially during the “middle-school” period, bullying and teasing can become quite a problem for many students, parents and educators.  The reasons the “middle-school” years are such a challenge for many children is because it is a period in which kids experience rapid physical changes, changes in attitudes, values, intellectual processes, forgetfulness and preoccupation with other issues, along with irritability and mood swings.  All of those changes bring insecurity to children’s self esteem and one way some children deal with this is by bullying and teasing other children in order to try to make themselves feel more confident.

bullying and teasing75% of 8th Graders Have Experienced Bullying and Teasing
It is a sad fact believed by child behavioral researches, but true.  Also, of those 75%, 10 to 15% of those students report being regularly bullied.  Children are more likely to be bullied or teased if they suffer from low self esteem, are shy and/or non-assertive, or tend to be anxious or depressed.  Generally, children that lack good people skills or are unable to read social cues are more likely to be targeted.  Typically, different physical characteristics (being over-weight, wearing eyeglasses, having red hair, etc.) is not a target for bullying or teasing, however, those having those different traits lead to a child feeling different than their peers and lowers their self esteem.

Teaching Children Good People Skills and Building Character Can Reduce Bullying or Teasing
If children are taught good people skills and possess character at early ages, they are much less likely to bully or tease their peers or become a target of bullying and teasing.  Children that know how to interact with their peers are more confident, and having confidence in themselves will foster a healthy self esteem so that they do not need to bully another child in order to feel better about themselves.

BoostKids is a Tool to Build Character and Teach People Skills
Let’s face it, during the young teenage years, it is very difficult for parents and educators to get kids to listen and see them as a knowledgeable resource on anything, let alone how to treat other people.  During these ages, third party resources can become invaluable tools for teaching people skills and building character to children because they are an impartial validation to teach the children why these skills are important, what skills are necessary for them to learn, and reinforce what the parent or educator is trying to teach.

How BoostKids Can Help:

bullying and teasingBoostKids is a program that can help increase a child’s confidence by teaching social skills to children and building their character.  BoostKids has been and is currently being taught in schools, non-profit organizations, and after-school programs.  The program is now available as an at-home training program for children and their parents.  The key training tool of the BoostKids program is an interactive CD-ROM that shows kids the right-way and the wrong-way to handle social situations.  They learn from real kid actors in real-life scenerios!
