Improve Social Skills

Children
often come home from school sprouting statements like, "I
don't fit in" or "Nobody wants to be friends with
me." Such statements reflect the difficulty the child
is having adjusting with their peers. Social skills play
an important role in helping children adapt to the environment
around them. Good social skills improve their self esteem,
as well as help children to create healthier relationships
with friends.
Social skills include the art of listening, cooperation,
empathy, conflict resolution, team work, anger management
and expressing sympathy. Some people believe that children
learn by observation; therefore, there is no need to work
on their children's social skills. BoostKids believes otherwise;
we feel as though that to improve social skills in children,
you should provide them with the assistance they need. Developing
these skills is so important, that eliminating guesswork
is absolutely necessary. If your children don’t learn
by observation, they are at a disadvantage as they develop
into adults.
BoostKids
aims to improve the social skills of children, build their
character, make them realize their potential and boost their
self esteem. It uses techniques and proven methodologies,
which are guaranteed to help children improve social skills.
The basic components of the BoostKids program are an interactive
CD-ROM, the BoostKids activity book, and BoostKids flash
cards.
Children
can complete the program at their own pace, and not feel
pressured. This interactive program takes the child through
eight chapters with twenty-eight important lessons, which
are designed to help improve social skills and play an immense
role in the child's development. It prepares children to
properly handle the social situations that they will undoubtedly
encounter on a day to day basis.
The program has a user friendly interface and can benefit
children of all ages, but is most suited for children between
the ages of 6-16. Children may explore the program on their
own or parents or teachers can take them through it. Children
need to take a pre-program test to gauge the present level
of the child's social IQ, and a post-program test after each
lesson, to analyze if whether the lesson has helped the child
to improve social skills.
The first chapter “Meet & Greet” teaches
the children how important it is to greet others with a smile,
as well as how important it is to make eye contact when talking.
The second chapter, “Making conversation”, deals
not only with the art of speaking, but also with the art
of listening. The third chapter “Encouraging Thoughts,
Encouraging Actions” emphasizes on the correct way
of expressing feelings of gratitude with passion, enthusiasm
and sincerity. All of the lessons have one thing in common;
their ultimate goal is to improve social skills for children.
Each of the twenty eight lessons within the chapters use video
depiction of a real life situation to present information.
The wrong way to deal with the situation is shown first to
the child, followed by the right way. This helps the child
to recognize these situations in their own lives and deal with
them the way it was taught through the BoostKids program. The
child is awarded with a graduate certificate, after the completion
of program to give them a sense of accomplishment and progress
reports can be made for parents, so that they can track the
development of their children.
