Low Self Esteem

Low Self EsteemOne of the most common reasons for a lack of social skills and confidence in social environments in children, is low self esteem. Low self esteem tends to be the result of children being over criticized and having a lack of positive support from others. Some children face these adversities every day, which has caused the problem of low self esteem to become more prevalent. It is sometimes difficult for parents because the criticism their children face does not occur in the home, but in schools and in other social situations. Some parents feel pressured by the criticism their children face and take it personally, sometimes further exacerbating the situation. Low self esteem created by the criticism of other children and even adults begins to affect each child behaviorally through things like lack of confidence, lack of assertiveness and even shyness

How Do I Increase My Child’s Self Esteem?

Self esteem can easily be boosted by supporting your child when they are being subjected to criticism. Another important way to boost self esteem is a lot of positive feedback towards your child and to fully encourage their strengths. For your children, criticism and a lack of positive encouragement will hinder their self esteem and make your job even harder.

In addition to cutting back on criticism comes teaching your child character and nurturing their people skills. There are also several other key things that will improve your child’s low self esteem and Boost Kids touches on them all:
